Governance – Board Oversight of OSH

Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) matters are overseen by the Board of Directors through the Board Sustainability Committee, with execution and coordination driven by the Group Sustainability function. The Safety & Health Team and the Sustainability Team work collaboratively under Group Sustainability, supported by specialized sub-teams including Legal, Emergency Response, Site HSE Committee, Internal Audit, Promotion & Awareness, and EAIR/HIRADC. This structure ensures strong integration of OSH within the company’s overall sustainability governance framework.

Key Governance Practices

  1. Quarterly OSH performance review presented to the Board Sustainability Committee.

  2. Board-approved HSE Policy with annual review of HIRARC and EAIR results.

  3. Cross-functional representation in the Safety & Health Team and Site HSE Committees, including Safety Officers, Site Supervisors, and Project Managers, to ensure effective top-to-bottom communication.

  4. Promotion and awareness programmes led by the Promotion, Publicity & Awareness Team to embed a strong safety culture across the organization.

CSR

Our Focus Area & Objectives

At MGB Berhad, CSR is more than an obligation. It is part of our business strategy and reflects our role as a builder of communities. Our community investment approach focuses on three clearly defined areas:

  1. Environment: Biodiversity and ecosystem restoration through initiatives such as tree planting, species adoption, and green awareness programmes.

  2. Education: Exposure programmes for school children, empowerment for Orang Asli youth, and education support for children with disabilities.

  3. Community Wellbeing: Humanitarian relief, blood donation, and social welfare support for underserved groups.

Each initiative is designed to connect meaningfully to our core business building sustainable, safe, and thriving communities while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 : Quality Education, SDG 3 : Good Health & Well-Being, SDG 15 : Life on Land)

Our CSR programmes in 2025 delivered measurable results and memorable impact:

  2. RKK Bowling: A fundraising bowling event in partnership with Rumah Mega Kanak-Kanak Orang Asli, empowering Orang Asli children through exposure and bonding activities. Funds raised went directly to children’s educational needs, bridging learning gaps for underserved communities.

  3. Grow Project: 57 volunteers, including top management, planted 500 bags of plants at Zoo Negara’s green zones, contributing to biodiversity restoration while learning about wildlife conservation.

  4. Love Our Neighbours: Conducted a blood donation drive and organised a career exposure programme for school children, introducing them to civil engineering and construction through fun, interactive games.

  5. Kiwanis Treasure Hunt: Donations supported the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation’s Early Intervention Programme (EIP), covering therapy costs for 120 children with Down Syndrome, giving them better opportunities for development at an early age.

Staff Volunteerism & Engagement

Volunteerism is central to MGB’s CSR philosophy. We set an annual volunteerism target of 500 hours, and in 2025 we surpassed expectations, recording 730 hours across multiple initiatives, a significant leap from 68 hours in 2024.

More than just numbers, these activities united 134 employees from multiple departments, reinforcing teamwork and giving them a sense of shared purpose. Our aim is to make CSR fun, meaningful, and inclusive, encouraging more staff to participate every year and embedding a culture of social responsibility into our workplace.

Volunteers reported higher engagement and motivation after participating, demonstrating that when employees give their time to meaningful causes, they return to work with renewed energy and empathy, a win-win for people and performance.

Support for Children’s Rights

MGB’s CSR strategy supports children’s rights beyond prohibiting child labour. Programmes such as RKK Bowling and Kiwanis Treasure Hunt directly empower children through education, play, and therapy support. By funding educational initiatives and creating safe, supportive environments, we affirm our commitment to protecting and advancing children’s rights in the communities we operate.
