MGB NAMED AS ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMERS AT THE EDGE ESG AWARDS 2024, AND SCORES DIAMOND 1 STAR AT MOSHPA’s 20th OSH EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2024 WITHIN THE SAME WEEK

SELANGOR, 21 October 2024 – MGB Berhad (“MGB”), a leading construction and property development solutions provider and subsidiary of LBS Bina Group Berhad, is honoured to be the recipient of 2 awards that came off the back of its environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) initiatives and efforts.

Firstly, MGB has won the Silver award for the Best Performer by Sector (construction) at The Edge Malaysia ESG Awards 2024. The prize was presented to Shany Lim, Head of Group Sustainability, during the awards ceremony held at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur. The Edge Malaysia ESG Awards is a collaborative effort between Bursa Malaysia and FTSE Russell. The evaluations were based on FTSE Russell’s ESG rating methodology, which aligned with the methodology employed in creating the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index, a recognized industry standard for ESG practices in the country. The recipients were carefully selected by a panel of official auditors from Deloitte.

MGB has also won the Diamond 1 Star award for OSH Management in Construction & Engineering from Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Practitioners’ Association (“MOSHPA”) at their 20th OSH Excellence Awards 2024 on 18 October 2024. MOSHPA works very closely with the government through the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health and Social Security Organization (PERKESO). For this award, recipients were selected via a thorough inspection of worksites and documentation combined.

MGB Group Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Lim Hock San commented, “This is the second consecutive year that we are receiving an award for sustainability from the Edge ESG Awards. This shows our continuous and unwavering dedication to operate our businesses responsibly. I am thankful that we have managed to build on our foundations and progress from the previous years, and endeavour towards planned environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and implementing the latest corporate governance practices. Therefore, this recognition serves as a continuous recognition of all our efforts to integrate ESG principles into our business operations.”

Meanwhile, the MOSHPA award recognises MGB’s commitment to ensure a safe working environment for its staff, particularly those working on its construction projects on-site. On receiving this award, Tan Sri Lim further commented, “MGB has always put the welfare and safety of its workers as a priority. As a recipient of this award, we pride ourselves for having a safe environment for our workers to carry out their work. MGB maintains stringent standard operating procedures for safety at its construction sites and conducts training for all personnel who enter the sites to minimise the risks of undesired incidents from occurring.

This year, MGB looks to improve on its initiatives and commitment detailed in its comprehensive roadmap towards achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. For 2025, MGB remains guided through 2 core strategies and 6 climate actions. Currently, MGB takes proactive measures such as internal carbon pricing, to ensure its carbon reduction initiatives are adopted across its procurement and supply chain practices. We are actively collaborating with our tenants through the Sustainable Tenancy Initiative, aimed at embedding eco-friendly practices, via energy saving measures and minimising carbon emission activities.”
