What does construction look like beyond the classroom?
This question was brought to life when MGB Berhad (“MGB”) welcomed a delegation from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Club of Universiti Malaya (“CEECUM”) to its IBS Precast Concrete Panel factory in Nilai, operated by its subsidiary, MGB Sany (M) IBS Sdn Bhd. The visit, attended by 20 students and lead by Dr. Leong Geok Wen, as part of the Group’s ongoing commitment to industry engagement and knowledge sharing.
The session began with an introduction to Industrialised Building System (“IBS”) precast technology, providing students with a foundational understanding before entering the production environment. As the visit progressed, participants were guided through the factory’s operational workflow, where they observed the full production cycle of precast concrete panels.

From mould preparation and reinforcement placement to concrete casting, curing, and demoulding, each stage reflected a structured and controlled manufacturing process. This exposure allowed students to better appreciate how factory-based construction methods contribute to improved consistency, efficiency, and quality in modern building practices.

Beyond technical observation, the visit also highlighted the role of controlled production environments in supporting more sustainable construction approaches. By reducing material wastage and enhancing resource efficiency, IBS precast concreate systems demonstrate practical alignment with evolving industry expectations on sustainability.

Professional exchange of insights between Mr. Ahmad Kamal Bin Hanapi, Production Manager of MGB Sany (M) IBS Sdn Bhd, and Dr. Leong Geok Wen, Senior Lecturer of Universiti Malaya, during the visit.
A key highlight of the visit was the interactive question and answer session, where students engaged directly with MGB’s technical team. The discussion provided valuable insights into the practical application of IBS, as well as broader considerations within the construction industry. This exchange reflected a strong level of curiosity and a genuine interest in understanding how academic knowledge translates into real-world practice.

This initiative underscores MGB‘s commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance ESG principles. From a social perspective, the engagement supports the development of future engineering professionals by providing meaningful industry exposure. From an environmental standpoint, it reinforces the Group’s advocacy for more sustainable and efficient construction methodologies. In terms of governance, the visit demonstrated the importance of structured processes and quality control in delivering reliable building solutions.
MGB Berhad remains committed to fostering collaboration with academic institutions such as Universiti Malaya, as part of its broader effort to contribute to industry development and talent cultivation.
As the visit concluded, it left participants with a deeper appreciation of how construction is evolving and the role that innovation and industrialisation play in shaping its future.
